Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Nature

Visit Detroit Lakes, and you may never have to go inside.

Picnic in one of our many city parks. Rent a canoe, kayak, boat or even an inner tube, and slip into the rivers and 412 lakes that surround the city. Birders' eyes never need to leave the skies or the shore, with several refuges and wetlands to explore.

Bike or hike our trails. Test yourself on rugged paths or coast on a paved one between West Lake Drive and Dunton Locks Park.

Detroit Lakes is a virtual trails crossroad. Discover the Pine to Prairie Birding Trail, Lake Country Scenic Byway and Winter Wonderland snowmobile and cross-country ski trails. Soon the nation's longest hiking trail, the North Country Trail will come through Becker County, offering nature lovers another opportunity to enjoy our outdoors. As well, an extension of the Heartland Trail is in the works, linking Detroit Lakes to Frazee and onward to Park Rapids. A westerly route will connect Detroit Lakes to Moorhead.

No matter how you travel, at Detroit Lakes, we'll get you close to nature.
