Trail reports

Welcome to 250 miles of Minnesota snowmobile trails in the Detroit Lakes area.

The Winter Wonderland Trails are open December 1 - March 31, depending on snow conditions. The trails cover rolling prairie to secluded woodlands with opportunities to see wildlife. Enjoy more than 250 miles of snowmobiling fun that hook up with neighboring trails in all directions. You may also hear this report by calling 218-847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

Most of the Winter Wonderland Snowmobile Trails do not yet have adequate snowfall for snowmobiling. Wooded trail areas north of Detroit Lakes, from Ice Cracking Resort north to Rainbow Resort and Pinehurst Resort to Naytahwaush reportedly have snow adequate for sledding. Contacts at Pinehurst Resort said state trails in their area are in good shape for snowmobiling.
Use extreme caution if riding on lakes as periods of warm temps have resulted in thin ice in areas or pressure ridges.

Trail maps are available at the Detroit Lakes Chamber office, 700 Summit Avenue, weekdays from 8-5, and after hours in the box outside the front door. Free trail maps may also be picked up at area convenience stores and lodging properties. Or, download city and area snowmobile trail maps.

Cross country skiing in Becker County offers a fresh outdoor experience of winter snow-time fun in the Detroit Lakes area. Over the weekend of January 21-22, snowfall greatly improved cross country skiing north of Detroit Lakes. Rainbow Resort reportedly had 5"-6" of snow and the trails now are groomed for skiing. Maplelag Resort received 4" of snow and skiing trails are in good to excellent condition.
