Detroit Lakes, Minnesota chosen as Capital For a Day
Detroit Lakes has been awarded the honor as the deciduous zone Capital for a Day by the Minnesota Sesquicentennial.
In 2008, Minnesota celebrates its 150th birthday. Communities selected to represent each of the five biomes will be recognized during Minnesota’s Statehood Week, May 11th – 18th, 2008. The Detroit Lakes community is working with the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission to help raise awareness for the Detroit Lakes area.
The Capitals for a Day were selected in five biomes, or biological communities. Detroit Lakes was nominated for the Deciduous Forest area. Then the general public was asked to vote for their favorite communities – and Detroit Lakes received the most votes for the deciduous zone.
A full day of events is planned for the entire community and surrounding areas for Capital for a Day in Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Download the event poster below, then come join the fun in Detroit Lakes!
