Highway 10 Construction/ Connect Detroit Lakes, MinnesotaSafety and mobility is being improved on Highway 10 East in Detroit Lakes. The project began in 2006.The Highway 10/Connect Detroit Lakes construction project will resume in the spring of 2008. Paving will be done on Washington Avenue, north of Highway 10. A new traffic signal system will be installed in this area. The new Highway 10 alignment is planned to be open by early July. Work then shifts to the frontage road retaining walls, installing the boat ramp by the Holiday Inn and connecting the frontage road with East Shore Drive. The Connect Detroit Lakes project realigns three easterly miles of Highway 10 and railroad tracks, provides the city's first underpass, improves Highway 10/59 traffic flow with additional lanes, reduces traffic congestion at the Highway 59/34 intersection and completes a frontage road around Big Detroit Lake. When the work is done, safety will be improved at railroad crossings and intersections, and mobility will be balanced for through-traffic on Highway 10 as well as local motorist access. To learn more about the project, go to the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s website. You’ll be able to see weekly schedules and maps to help you get around Detroit Lakes.
