Fishing Reports
This is the Ice Report for Friday, January 25, 2008 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.
We are just coming out of a two week long severe cold front that has had low temps in the mid -20’s and day time highs in the –single digits. Some ice anglers have continued to catch fish braving these conditions. Most walleyes have come on jigging spoons and minnow heads or bobber fishing with minnows in 24-28ft of water on the area lakes. Bite periods have been best at about ˝ hr before sunset until dark 30. Some late night success was had during the full moon phase. Pan fish slowed some over the hot bite of two or three weeks ago. Reports of quality crappie and sunfish have been off the deep weed edges of green weeds on sharp break. Watching locators is key as many of the schools come through suspended at different depths over the 14-20ft depths. Small glow jigs with wax worms or crappie minnows have been working. A short early am bite, an afternoon turn on and a little better evening bite seems to be the prevalent pattern. Look for the bite to improve as we get the nicer temps. Ice conditions are good in the area, but, as always, use common sense before wandering out on unexplored ice.
